"The Whole Time?"

Remember the movie, "Mrs. Doubtfire?" It's one of my most favorite movies and a situation that happened to me recently reminded me of the above scene from that movie; particularly at about 3:00 minutes in. I'll explain.

My husband and I hired a contractor to build our garage in a spot on our property where an overhead cable exists running between two telephone poles. The electric company came out promptly to raise their line. The cable company is a different story. I called one company that came out, said it was theirs and they would be happy to raise it once the electric cable was raised. Simple, right? Not so much.

I called the same cable company and asked them to come raise their line. They send a guy out who talks with my husband for some time and the guy tells my husband that it isn't their line. Really? I googled cable companies for my tiny town and nine came up, which was surprising. Ok, I settled in and went down the line calling all the cable companies listed. NONE of them even have a cable on a pole; all carriers were now wireless.

Two weeks has passed from the beginning to now that I've spent on the phone, all the while neglecting my other duties. Mind you, I've been talking to my neighbor every night about the stinking cable and how we're having such difficulty finding out who owns the dang line.

So yesterday, since I had exhausted every possible avenue and bugged everyone I could to find an answer. I called the electric company back and explained my dilemma. I was told they would come out, test the line to see if it is dead and remove it if it is. Wonderful! I'm thrilled and I tell my neighbor all this yesterday evening and she says, "Oh, don't cut that line! That's my cable tv!"

The only thing that ran through my mind was, "The whole time?!?"
