Beware: It's Charity Giving Season
It's that time of year again... that time when you get calls daily from people, and now computerized voices, claiming to represent organizations that help those who need it. They might be helping those with cancer, or children, or animals. I've received some calls for police widow programs, firefighters and my personal favorite: veterans. Many of those calling are merely scammers looking for free money from hardworking yet gullible people like you and me.
I applaud those of you who give unselfishly to legitimate organizations - there are many out there. I only ask you first check them out before you give. Here's a great website that rates organizations, Charity Navigator, where you can find out all kinds of information on each charity organization: https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=content.view&cpid=531&from=search-text
Another good website to check out it is Charity Watch: https://www.charitywatch.org/top-rated-charities
My favorite charity is Victory Village in Amador County, California. I personally know the people who started and facilitate this organization. I can say for certain that every dollar donated actually does go to help homeless and veterans in crisis. Their website is here: http://www.victoryvillageamador.org/
Saturday, November 11th is Veterans Day, and is dear to my heart as I am a service connected disabled veteran. Whatever your favorite charitable organization, please thoroughly check them out BEFORE you give!
